台灣開始發行「晶片護照」 防偽功能提升

台灣正式發行「晶片護照」，中華民國成為全球第60個發行晶片護照的國家。外交部表示，晶片護照防偽功能提高，有利於台灣爭取歐美免簽證待遇。

晶片護照在護照底頁植入一枚非接觸式晶片，與舊版護照相比，晶片護照的外觀沒有太大改變，只在封面標示晶片護照標誌，而護照內頁從48頁增為52頁，並加增台灣南北景點地標及風土民情為內頁圖案主題。

Taiwan begins to issue "electronic passport" and has become the 60th country issuing e-passport. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C (Taiwan), points out that e-passport with higher anti-fraud and security features will benefit the endeavor for including Taiwan into the visa-free lists of the European and American countries.

E-passport, i.e., chip passport, is the same as a regular passport with the addition of a small contactless integrated circuit (computer chip) embedded in the back cover. E-passport looks similar to the regular passport except for the mark of e-passport on the cover, 48 inner pages increasing to 52, and the scenic or folk custom themes added on the inner pages.
